8th Grade
Teachers
Ms. Allan
I am the eighth-grade science teacher here at A2 STEAM, and I love teaching science! A bit about me – I grew up in Ann Arbor (graduated from Huron), and obtained my master's degree in K-8 education from the University of Michigan. I got my start teaching algebra at the middle school level in Ann Arbor and then taught in Birmingham Public Schools at the middle school level for five years. This is my tenth year teaching science at STEAM. My husband and I enjoy traveling, hiking, and camping. We have two children at STEAM (ages 11 and 13) who love being outdoors just as much as we do. I also run the Dungeons and Dragons after-school club, which begins in October.

I’m pleased to spend the year with you in math! Algebra is my favorite! A little background: I grew up in Midlothian, Virginia, and have lived in several mid-Atlantic states. I have a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia and managed commercial construction projects as a first career. Upon earning an MA in Teaching from Towson University, I taught 6th and 7th grades in Harford County, Maryland. After Mr. Bednar’s job moved us to Ann Arbor, I stayed home with our two boys (13 and 9) until they were both students at STEAM. This is my 4th year at STEAM. When we have free time, my family enjoys exploring our National Parks, watching and playing soccer, baking, and reading.

Hello 6th grade families! I am so excited for another year of reading and writing! This is my sixth year teaching, and my fourth year at STEAM. I grew up on the east side of the state before moving to Washtenaw County in 2010. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2018 with a BA in Elementary Education with a focus in Language Arts. I now live in the STEAM neighborhood, and have two daughters here at the school. I love reading and getting kids to love it, too. When I’m not teaching I love spending time with my family. We enjoy traveling, board games, and all things arts and crafts. We spend a lot of time at the Ann Arbor parks, and especially love tubing the cascades. I am also an improv comedian, and spend a lot of my free time making up stories in front of strangers.

I am excited to return this year for my third year as a teacher here at A2 STEAM. I grew up in Ann Arbor and even attended Northside Elementary School as a youngster. After graduating from AAPS I attended the University of Michigan for Elementary Education and interned as a student teacher here at A2 STEAM. I am excited this year to look again at the history of our nation and the mythology that is often put forth as mainstream history. I live in Ypsilanti with my wife our 3 dogs and currently, our 14-day-old foster child. In my spare time I enjoy playing with my dogs, playing music, and cheering on the Michigan State Spartans - GO GREEN!

Greetings, families! I am so excited for this upcoming school year at A2 STEAM! Born and raised in upstate NY, my teaching career has taken me from New York City to Long Island, NY, and then Copenhagen, Denmark, before landing right here in Ann Arbor. Along the way I met and married my wife, Caitlin, also a teacher (and Ann Arbor native). Our daughter, Simone, will be in First Grade at STEAM this year, my son Evan just turned 4 and our youngest is just coming up on 18 months. In my rapidly disappearing free time, I enjoy reading, working in my garden, playing with our dog, Ruthie, and spending time outdoors. I’ve become a passionate Wolverine since adopting Ann Arbor as my home, but am just as likely to belt out Hamilton lyrics as Hail to the Victors!
