Band

Curriculum

Band class curriculum is based on the National Core Arts Standards: Creating, Performing/Presenting/Producing, Responding, and Connecting.  Students will achieve these standards by doing exciting projects and performances. No prior experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome!

Class Motto

Everything you do in class should promote quality music education for you and the band.  This means respect all people and things, and follow the band rules.  It also means that it is your responsibility to ask for help when you need it, and to help your fellow classmates when they need it.

Cara Boden

Mrs. Boden has taught 5th - 8th grade band ever since she graduated from the University of Michigan in 1993. She has also taught some general music and high school band, but her passion is the middle school years. She especially loves introducing students to band music from different cultures, as well as teaching traditional American concert band and jazz band music.

Mrs. Boden grew up on a small farm in Vermont, so she is no stranger to hard work. She still loves gardening and animals, but doesn't do much with either now since she lives in downtown Ann Arbor. Upon graduating from U of M, she was a band director in Manchester for 3 years, then Saline for 11 years, before moving to Tokyo for a few years where she taught middle school orchestra!

Mrs. Boden is absolutely thrilled to be the band director at the Ann Arbor STEAM School at Northside.
